The Civil Rights-Era Cold Case Initiative began in 2006 with a solemn charge: Reopen long dormant cases from a period in America's history when blacks and whites were killed in the South's bloody.

The Cold Case Division focuses on those cases with the highest probability of being solved with fresh leads and new forensic technology. The Fremont Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has invested its resources into investigating and solving cold case homicides and missing persons. Volunteers in Police Services VIPS (Age 21+).
